You can start the system in console mode by typing 'linux 3' at the LILO
prompt.

Agreed, but there's a way to kill the the id imbedded in the cuecat
by cutting a trace. After that, it generates random garbage. ;-))

My guess is that you forgot to run "/sbin/lilo" after editing your boot
message file.
