Hello,
sorry if this question has been asked before (newuser here):
I have a strange problem with linux writing to a vfat32-partition
normaly used by windows98. Everything seems to be ok as long as I=B4m
under linux. When I boot w98 and look on that partition still everything
looks fine EXCEPT every File which fits DOS 8.3-convention is in capital
letters. =
Example: Writing the Files "test", "test.test" and "testtest.tst" on a
vfat32-partition with my linux results (from the sight of w98) in the
files "TEST", "test.test" and "TESTTEST.TST". I tried another kernel -
no difference.
Bug? Rtfm (where)? =

Though you will need to have XF86 configured to emulate a three button mouse
(If by some chance you don't have this turned on, look for the
"Emulate3Buttons" section under pointers in /etc/X11/XF86Config)

I'm a Windows user (don't sneer) and I want to create a Linux server
for email, www hosting, a mud, file servering. I've dabbled in linux
before but now I want to continue seriously in my education. I don't
piticularly care about a gui. One wouldn't be so bad, but definately
not necessary. What services should I run? What linux distribution
should I install?
Note: I don't mind screwing my computer up over and over again in the
process.
Do you have any suggestions for books or info I need.

POSIX requires vi. Since real vi isn't possible, various things are
substituted for it (elvis, nvi or vim typically).

I don't like the path in the prompt. It takes up too much space. If

I have netscape 4.7 installed on my Mandrake 7.0 system.
I have plugger as a plugin. If I look at my plugins,
plugger is activated and supports png format images.
When I click on a png image on a website (for a
screenshot image, for instance) I don't get to see it.
Instead, netscape gives me a message that png image
format is unknown or not supported.
What is missing? Why isn't it able to see png format
images if I have support for it activated and running?
I also have a number of image viewers.

This is in the "Setting the ramdisk word" section of the Bootdisk-HOWTO.
For a 2-disk boot/root pair, you would use
rdev -r /dev/fd0 49152
49152 is 0xc000
For a single boot/root disk you would use 0x4000 + the offset to the
start of the compressed ramdisk image. The offset is the number of 1k
blocks.

Does RedHat's site actually serve a purpose?
...
Hello,
does the RH6.1 pcmcia-RHEA-1999:044.img boot image actually work?
it gives me a blank list of drivers to pick from when I boot from
this image on my laptop!
the only other option is to try "linux supp" with
RH6.0 which means I would first have to install RH6.0 and
then upgrade to RH6.1.
This also fails miserably.
The PCMCIA card I have is a 3Com589D, fully supported.
None of the combinations of commands suggested by RH on their site
seems to work.
Please feedback anyone who has gotten this to actually work.
Thanks,
AG

Help!
I just installed the new RH6.2 and got it up running like a kitten here

now has only 14.18M left and the /usr/local has 806M left. How does one

PowerTools for 6.2 that I will like to install.

On the other hand, their own corporate site is inaccessible to old versions
of their own IE browser. I had to to an NT install (don't ask), starting
from the basic NT Server 4.0, and then the multitude of service packs and so
on. It came with an ancient version of IE, which HAD to be updated at one
point in the chain. Problem is, you can't get to their site with the old
browser in order to replace the old browser. I had to fetch with another
machine, and snag it from there to upgrade this one PC. Gaaak.
On the other hand, basic navigation on their site seems OK using a text
browser from Linux, such as lynx or w3m. Go figure.
