Hi. Thanks for the answer.
btw: Where do I find the new LILO? How new is it? Newer than the one that
ships with RH6.2?
The reason I asked this question is that I did a setup the other night where
I didn't have a /boot and just created a / partition. Now, before I exited
the RH fdisk program (whatever it's called) I was just creating my
partitions and setting mount points and it just wouldn't let me create a
partition more than 8 GB. And I hadn't even set it to mount at / yet. I
was just CREATING the partitions. I thought this was very weird, so I went
into Windows (dual boot) and partitioned it using Partition Commander
and when I reran the RH 6.2 fdisky thing, it had no problem. I got smart
then and created a /boot anyway, but it was very weird. Got me thinking
that and ext2 couldn't be bigger than 8GB. Guess not.
Thanks again,
Kent!

I'll not argue with this, but note that the original poster said
"... on similar MHZ CPUs ...". I wouldn't call 450 MHz "similar" to
1 GHz at all: it's more than double!
I don't know, but how does Intel @ 450 MHz compare to the other processors
AT THE SAME CLOCK RATE? My guess would be similar integer performance,
and worse FP performance.

I need to use both so I use to telnet the linux from the windoze.
Now I got a evalutation version of an X server for the windoze, it's ok

There is any chance to do it the other way arround?
There is any kind of "video driver" that makes virtual screens in the
windoze that can be accesed from a linux box?
some thing like a "converter that make windows act like a X client.
I so, VCN but this is for single screen, I need many... could it be tweaked

I have to go through so many screens to configure things
and find options. A cursory glance at options and online help

POP mail.

Kmail is a gui, and hence has no modes (as a rule). For
instance, in JBN (A windows mailer), I can be both composing
messages, configuring the app, and reading mail.

I need this script to upload from our primary FTP server to some
secondary FTP servers (you guys were so helpful before on this! :)
This *ALMOST* works. I can upload files in a script with the ncftpput
command. The problem I have encountered is that I need to find some
files based on -ctime 1 and have those files uploaded via ncftpput to
the server. Below is what I have come up with - and its close. The
problem is the cpio copies the output from find including directories,
I dont want the directories, only the files themselves (no archiving).
How do I pass the output from find to ncftpput so that the files
selected with find are uploaded to the sites? (I tried using the -c
flag but that did not seem to work properly.)
#!/bin/bash
# FTP distributing script
find /home/flibble/windward/test -print0 -ctime 1 -type f | cpio
--null -pdv
/tmp/test/
ncftpput -u USER -p XXXXXX FTP.SITE /home/george *
echo upload complete

*snicker* Tell that to me again. This is being written in vim off slrn

Clearly you don't consider this functional whereas *I* do. That is why I

Subject: trouble with linux large file support
Date: Fri, 9 Jun 2000 18:37:25 +0200
Hi everybody,
I am currently porting an application to Linux. We use SuSE-Linux 6.2 with
kernel 2.2.10 and libc6-Version 2.9.
Our GUI uses Ilog-Products (Views 3.11, Inform 3.02 and DBLink 4.01).
I am getting tons of undefined references while linking their libraries
agains our libstdc++. They are calling ostream::seekp(long) but in the the
libstdc++ there's only defined a function ostream::seekp(long long) because
of the large file support. I don't want to downgrade to an older libc6 and
I have no means to change any of Ilog's function calls.
Is there a proper way of handling this?
Is there perhaps a compiler-flag or variable which could be set?
I am currently searching all the Linux sources to find something but I have
not been lucky with it so far.
I will greatly appreciate any help, this is really important for me since I
am writing my thesis on that.
Thanks !!
Timo.

they need different mount points. this is a long standing imho flaw
of unix.
some commericial unices have something called LVM (logical volume
manager?) which allows you to spread a partition across multiple
disks. afaik linux does not have this yet. it might be in 2.[34].
the other option is software raid. i am not sure about all the
particulars. i think that even raid 0 will assume all disks are the
same and hence treat them all as if they were the smallest of them.
thus 20GB + 13GB = 13+13GB = 26GB.

The so-called PnP thing? I also don't know. I think there was a rumour
of it, but Idon't think it went through. I may be mistaken .. I haven't
looked at 4.0 yet.
Technically, I would guess that it's easy to mistake a monitor that
doesn't respond for one that responds weirdly.

This happens automatically in X.

Just select using the left button (possibly also shift). Paste with the
right button.

FWIW
The VGA=[selection] also works with LoadLin, as does most if not all of
the LiLo commands.

e2fsprogs
As far as I remember Theodore Ts'O is the maintainter.
His web site is at http://web.mit.edu/tytso/www/
If you look in the base packages installed on SuSE there is e2fsprogs
However there is no libuuid.so
But there is something called uuidgen somewhere ? instead.
I thing gnome-utils-x is on the gnome site, look under both the stable
and unstabel trees.
Have fun!
