Thanks for the time you spent. I have printed it and will work it as soon
as
I shut down Win98 and crank up Linux.
Thanks again,

Subject: html print filters
Date: Fri, 07 Jul 2000 01:33:39 GMT
I have the following problem:
My bot wants to print one (paper) page from a web page it fetches
periodically.
I also have a solution on linux:
feed the page to lpr
If I want html formatting I will use something like htmltops
and feed it to a postscript printer.
But I also want this bot to work on windblows machine or
print to a nonpostscript printer.
I should not really be asking for help on how I can make this on a
winblows machine but does any one know I can print an html file
to a nonscript printer if I want more than the raw html source code
on paper.
Also can I send a raw postscript file to a samba printer (which of course
understands postscript etc)?
Thanks in advance

You can find out the current line number with Ctrl+g
You can jump to a specific number by typing a colon (:) followed by the line
number and pressing enter.

I'm not sure this question should have been posted in comp.os.linux.admin and
I definately don't think it's appropriate in comp.os.linux.networking.

If you want your settings to be on when you start vi, put them in

Thanks. I knew I was overlooking something. After reading some man

Good to know as well. I don't have it aliased so I didn't see

There are many good books on Linux. There is no particular author I
would recommend, however I would recommend reading all the HOWTO's.
http://www.linuxdoc.org is a great place for documentation.
If you run your own Linux box, it goes without saying that you are
your own System Administrator. To this end I would recommend
"Linux Companinion for System Administrators" by Jochen Hein.
It is printed by Addison-Wesley ( famous for such great books
as "The C Progamming Language" [ a must ] and "The Practice of
Programming" [ another must ]). Anyway, the book is well laid
out and covers a broad range of topics. It is hard-bound and runs
about US $40 ( shelf price ).
Best Wishes,

The two drives are probably already listed as devices under
/dev/st0
/dev/st1
Try running a retension using
/bin/mt -f /dev/st0 retension
and
/bin/mt -f /dev/st1 retension
with a tape in the drive and see what happens
backup is just something like:
/usr/local/bin/tar --create --file=/dev/st0 --verbose \
/boot /home /etc /usr/local 1>>/tmp/logfile 2>&1
hope it helps,

Hi Jeremy,
Look for a file called "mbrwork.exe" on the shareware sites. This will
write all zeros to the MBR and you can start clean with a new install.
If you have trouble finding it e-mail me and I will send you a copy. I
have used it several times with no problems. It is a freeware file.

Subject: SB 16 PCI ? Sound card suggestions. Please.
Date: 7 Jul 2000 02:38:34 GMT
{
I posted this a couple of days ago... no replies yet. So reposting.
with additions:
I've also seen good prices on
1) Creative Ensoniq 128 PCI and some
2) Yamaha Y724 based cards
recently in a local store. Any opinions about these cards.
}
Hi,
I need to buy a couple of good PCI full duplex sound card. The most
important application I'm looking for is telephony. (hence the
importance of full duplex). I don't have much money to spend on
these... about US $40-$50 per card would be the top price I'm
willing to pay (but prefer somthing closer to $30) . SB16 cards seem
to be rather popular also seem to have good support under
linux. I'd prefer that they have good ALSA support of course for
full-duplex as I hear that the free OSS drivers are all half
duplex. (I'm looking for the SB16 PCI card by the way. ISA is not an
option for me)
Some other cards I have under consideration are:
The diamond sonic imapct S100
Some Trident 4Dwave NX/DX based cards ( from brands like Hoontech,
Aztec etc.)
I'm open to suggestions. In fact you could say I'm desperate for
good suggestions as my experience in getting sound working with
linux has not been a good one in the past (and I've been using
linux for more than 5 years!!!). So please please write any
good/bad experiences you have with a particular card.
By the way, another thing I'm looking for is good microphone
input quality as I'd really like to experiment with via-voice
toolkit from IBM. But telephony is the main thing at the moment.
Thanks a lot

When you install X, try going up in monitor setting until you get one
that no longer works, then back off. I wish it would tell you refresh
rates, but it doesn't in most versions. Another way is the eye test. At
less than 70 Hz you'll see flicker. As for the screen moving to the
right, it's probably a combination of resolution and refresh rate not
seen before, so just adjust for it and you'll be fine, as long as you
have one of the newer monitors.

If this is a normal Linux install, the source code for the module is
already there in /usr/src/linux/ ... it just needs to be compiled.
The question you're asking indicates that you're extremely new to this

The list is for announcements (ie no posts from the list)
All subscriptions/unsubscriptions get sent to the main list, but are

All other messages are bounced to another address to be delt with manually.
Is this possible? I have it configured to use 2 at the moment, but there is
really little real need for the list-request address.
