Hi Jim,
When I first started using Linux, I had a similiar problem. It turned
out that it was because I didn't have the proper seearch paths setup. When
you enter in a command, there is a list of directories that Linux searches
through for the command. If the directory you're currently in isn't in the
search path, it won't be able to find the file. I think the file is called
.bash_profile (or some other file like that) and it should be in your home
directory. It's a hidden file so you have to use ls -al to see it.
If you add ./ into the search path, Linux will always be able to execute all
files in the directory you're currently in. ("." means the current directory
you're in.)
For example, you might have something like the following in the search path
file:
PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:./
Your other option is to always put a "./" in front of the file you want to
execute.

George Couch

Except that in Netscape you paste with Alt-V, and copy with Alt-C.

I downloaded gnome-libs-1.2.4-11.i386.rpm and when I try to install it i
get an error :
only packages with major numbers <=3 are supported by this version of RPM.
So I tried to download RPM version 4.0-4
and I tried to upgrade it and i get the same error...
so what now ?
my rpm version is 3.0.4. MY linux distro is RH 6.2
I tried looking for the tarball version of rpm 4.0-4 but I can't seem to
find it.

Actually, it SHOULD be able to. There's a backport patch available on
http://www.linux-usb.org/ that will allow you to patch the 2.3/2.4 USB code
into the 2.2 kernel RH 6.2 ships with, and allow you to configure your system
for USB support.
Hope this helps...

RH7 comes with both X4.01 and 3.3.6. You can use either. See the
Xconfigurator man page. I just switched from 3.3.6 to 4.01 since the
upgrade surprisingly left me with 3.3.6. Also, S3 Virge, but I guess
supported.
Xconfigurator --preferxf3

You could use the 'hostname' command to change it temporarily, but if you
are in X, things in X may stop working if you have not enabled that xhost.

The problem: User cannot add rp3 applet back to panel, cannot start rp3

Don't know why the 4.0 version doesn't work, but 3.0.5 will. I read
somewhere that it isn't recommended to upgrade to to 4.0 from any
version earlier than 3.0.5.

If the earlier kernels boot okay, but the 2.4.0test8 kernel is the sole
problem, this points to something funny in the make of the kernel.
I have successfully booted the 2.4.0 test8 kernel(s) from large IDE disks.
Your /dev/sdb is not large enough to require "lba32" in lilo.conf.

[View this message in a fixed-width/monospace font like Courier for best
results.]
Hello,
I am trying to get the color output from my inkjet printer (an Epson Stylus
COLOR 600) to match as closely as possible the images I view on my screen under
Linux. I am looking for advice on whether to increase or decrease the amount
of Cyan, Yellow, Magenta, and/or Black ink used by my printer.
For Linux people, I am using the following:
SuSE Linux 6.4
GhostScript 5.5
Uniprint Driver for Stylus COLOR 600
(stc600p.upp - 720dpi x 720dpi Plain Paper)
Also for Linux people, here are the colorspace entries from my stc600p.upp
file:
-dupBlackTransfer="{ 0.0000 0.0329 0.0706 0.1160 0.2392 0.7955 }"
-dupCyanTransfer="{ 0.0000 0.0602 0.1133 0.1961 0.2945 0.3885 }"
-dupMagentaTransfer="{ 0.0000 0.0602 0.1113 0.1617 0.1987 0.2328 }"
-dupYellowTransfer="{ 0.0000 0.0350 0.0914 0.1567 0.2430 0.2934 }"
For Engineering/Physics/Colorspace people:
The table above indicates the relative amount of ink that should be deposited
on the page for a given pixel, for each color in the CYMK colorspace.
As far as I understand, the driver handles 32 levels of saturation (5-bits,
binary) for each color represented in the table. Highest-order bit is the
column to the far right; lowest-order bit is the second column from the left.
The "zero" column has a function that I personally have not determined... (If
anyone would like to correct me or elaborate, please do - I am very much still
a novice at this.)
Below are links to two sets of pictures. Each set contains the following:
A.) A digital photograph (the "control" image).
B.) A scan of the photograph as printed from my Stylus COLOR 600.
I have attempted to make the scans (of the printed images) match the printed
images as closely as possible, without adjusting the brightness, contrast, or
colorspace of my computer monitor. This is so people can make accurate
analyses and recommendations.
Set #1:
1A.) Source Photograph (Control Image):
http://www.netdotcom.com/kadams/photo/processor-on-board.jpg
1B.) Printed Photograph (Scanned Image):
http://www.netdotcom.com/kadams/photo/processor-on-board-print.jpg
Set #2:
2A.) Source Photograph (Control Image):
http://www.netdotcom.com/kadams/photo/parts-layout.jpg
2B.) Printed Photograph (Scanned Image):
http://www.netdotcom.com/kadams/photo/parts-layout-print.jpg
I realize that by using a 5-bit CYMK color driver, and printing on plain,
uncoated, white inkjet paper, I am going to lose some ability to accurately
represent the image I am attempting to print - especially things like lens
flare, sparkle, metallic luster, etc....
But I would at least like the overall color (or more appropriately, hue and
saturation) to be accurately rendered.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated! Thanks in Advance...
Best Regards,
Kevin Adams

Subject: Different IRQ Problems I think

My computer has 3 serial ports. One of them is for InfraRed. The other
two can be changed in the BIOS, so I have made them COM1 and COM2.
I turned off PNP and set the jumpers on my modem to make it COM2 (I'd
much rather have the Wacom in Linux, than the modem, if worse comes to
worst).
Windows will not allow the Wacom to be on COM1, but it sees the modem on
COM2. So in Windows, the Wacom is on COM3.
When I run 'dmesg' after booting into Linux, I can see that Linux sees
the two ports now, as ttyS0 and ttyS1. However, it will not allow more
than one thing to run. I have chosen to run the Wacom. The modem
absolutely refuses to run on anything but ttyS0, in spite of having set
the jumpers, using an explicit 'setserial' command and the fact that the
Wacom is on ttyS0 (else it wouldn't run either).
This is the wackiest thing I've ever seen. I would have expected
Windows to have trouble with this setup, and it did get hysterical a
couple of times until I worked out that I had re-install the modem first
and then the Wacom.
Please, if anyone has any experience with this sort of problem, I'd
appreciate your suggestions. Will I need to use an 'AB Switch' or use
loadlin to get into Linux?
TIA
Allison Sage
