Subject: Re: kernel 2.2.18: problem connecting to ISP
Date: Sun, 14 Jan 2001 12:56:03 GMT

Michael, According to the Documents/Changes my installation meets all
criteria. And, the changes are given for all 2.2 kernels, including the
2.2.14 kernel which works with this respect. The reason why I upgraded was
that the Suse 7.0 distribution contains the 2.2.17pre kernel. I assumed that
the reason of my problem was a bug in the 'pre' release. It seems that
upgrading other packages does not solve the problem. FOr additional info, I
add the .config file of my kernel. Hope this gives more clues. Thanks

Mike

Just guess them. 50-80 and 30-55 should be fine.

How would it know?

You can't back calculate from that (except to deduce that it's an
improbable rate for a used monitor!)

Either your monitor is 30" across or you are using a
microscope to view it.

?? Just generate a file and comment out all the modelines except the
ones you want.

It wouldn't .. that doesn't make it reboot when in X!

I bet you didn't. Where do you think the "backspace" key is? And
how bout ctrl-alt-F1? or ctrl-alt-prtscrn-b ? (don't try this at home
 ...)

What's "Xconfigurator"? Never heard of it. Where did you get it from?
Is it something that comes with XFree or something from the
distribution you are using?

When you built your kernel, did you by any chance set 'TCP Explicit
Congestion Notification' to YES ?
If so, this is most likely the problem. Read help for this option in the
kernel setup.

There are a bunch of machines all running 6.1. And things like yp, nfs and amd

one machine I'm talking about.

After going through the setup, I did notice that was marked (though I don't
remember setting it, maybe it's yes by default now?) Anyway, one change later
and one reboot later and I'm still getting the same problem. It's just way
too bizarre! I even compared configs with the last build (I still have the
tree) and it is _EXACTLY_ the same!
