I ran xf86config and used a horizontal freq. of 30-95 and a vertical
freq. of 50-160. (As documented on the vendors site and at
http://sunsite.compapp.dcu.ie/pub/linux/redhat/i386/en/RedHat/instimage/usr/X11R6/share/Xconfigurator/MonitorsDB)
Here's the output from running X -probeonly... I'm not sure but it seems
that the output from X -probeonly says X is using frequencies outside
the range I gave it ...

Or the later 2.2 kernels, ie RH7 and update ones.
The key issue is wheather the one is supported by SANE (or pint?)
http://mostang.com/sane and follow the links to upported and there
the usb list.

Date: Mon, 15 Jan 2001 13:15:13 GMT
hi all
i have recently had problem when trying to establish a ppp dialup
connection with my isp.
i have a tecra 8100 laptop which has a lucent technology modem. it has
been fine using the ltmodem568 driver, but i have had the following
problem:
dial up isp
get the Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/modem string in /var/log/messages
but soon after that, hangup
has anyone seen this problem before and why this occurs. using the same
dial up scripts and authentication files on another linux machine (using
a 'real' external modem) with the same versions of kernel and pppd i can
dial up no problem.
i'm running redhat 6.2 with pppd-2.3.11 and kernel 2.2.14.
many thanks

Hello,
I had these kind of messages when I was messing with the ip_always_defrag
parameter.
It happens when your ipchains receives fragments from open connections, such
as streaming or ftp and the ip_always_defrag is at zero.
Have a look in the ipmasq mailing list. There was held a discussion about
the exact thing.

I am a novice but it sounds like a modem configuration problem. Settings
like hardware flow control, compression, full vs. half duplex, data
bits/stop bits/parity. Those kind of settings. If they do not match on
both ends, the handshaking will not occur and the hangup will.

In rhe file /etc/modules.conf there is an alias option for
BusLogic.
This appears to do nothing. The system is always looking for
the seagate driver, is this somekind of default ?

Tarantella is certainly a potential solution. There is a very similar
product called GraphOn. Sorry, I don't have direct experience with
either product.
Two other potential solutions:
1. Use VNC. This is a "remote control" product similar to PCAnyWhere,
but it is ported (both host & client) to many platforms, including NT
& Linux. http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/index.html
2. Use Wine to run your NT software on a Linux server; this enables
you to use your Linux thin clients as X servers with the application.
Yes, Wine is currently Alpha only. It has recently become a lot
easier to install & test drive thanks to the "CodeWeavers" package:
www.codeweavers.com
What software package is this?

My system has the same thing. The description in the script in
/etc/rc.d/init.d/keytable says:
# description: This package loads the selected keyboard map as set in \
# /etc/sysconfig/keyboard. This can be selected using the kbdconfig \
# utility. You should leave this enabled for most machines.
It is loads keyboard translation maps to make your system more language
friendly. Check out man loadkeys.

Subject: linux, w98 and w2k in LILO

Hello all,
I have a working lilo config that lets me chose between linux and dos.
If I chose dos, I then get the NT loader that offers a choice of NT or
W98.
Is there a way to select any of the 3 OS in Lilo rather than having to
go to NT loader for w98?
NE help would b apreciated :)

OK, this is an easy one since you installed an rpm package. Use the rpm
command with query options to learn about the package you installed. Do a
"man rpm" to learn more about the rpm options.
"rpm -qi sysstat" will give you information about the sysstat package you
installed.
"rpm -ql sysstat" will show you all the files that were installed as part of
the package. There might be a lot of files so you could pipe the output
into less if you like, "rpm -ql sysstat | less".
And to do just the opposite, suppose you find a file on your system and are
not sure what it does, you can use rpm to find out what package it belongs
to with "rpm -qf /path/to/file".
Hope this helps,
Chip
