The easiest way to deal with this is to go into your BIOS and set the
irq's for these items. to see what irq's are availible you can do a
lspci -v, hope this helps

Subject: ? run 'other' partition - How2 ?
Date: 6 Feb 2001 20:59:00 GMT

Hi,
  I'm running RH6.2 from /dev/hda6.
And I've also got an instalation on /dev/hda5.
A script:
  #!/bin/csh
fails on my /dev/hda6 installation, but another machine which
was installed from the same CD runs this script.

I'm thinking/hoping that perhaps my /dev/hda5 installation can handle
the #!/bin/csh script. I'm booting from a floppy to /dev/hda6.
How can I boot to /dev/hda5 - which was installed previously.
I can/do access /dev/hda5 for data-storage.

BTW. is it difficult to change the default shell from bash to csh.
The dud partition has got /bin/csh s-linked to /bin/tcsh, so
something else is 'failing'. Since this Nwsgroups 'scrolls fast',
I'd appreciate any advice also emailed to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks,
Chris Glur.

It might be that the overhead of opening the file and reading it is too
high; perhaps as high as the system(3) call (though I imagine it is
less).

hello,

we're running several dual-cpu celeron 466 machines with Redhat 6.2,
kernel 2.2.16-3 with SMP support, and get the following error:

Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address
0000000a

which will completely lock up the machine. it seems to be relatively
random, i.e. not traceable to a single process. Any ideas?

thanks for any help,

Thanks for your response. I have a program that is developed in Access and
would like to compile it into Lenux format to operate on a lenux web host.
Thus I would like to convert the entire program into Lenux. Is that
possible?

Thanks for the reply, but LSL *just today* put up a 7.1 RH beta CD

More like, but not equal to. The point that I was trying to make was
"I hold that the truth value of the CH is not 1.0. But I don't know what
value it is exactly". I.e. that the second statement adds to the
first, and IS consistent with it. That's at least one reading of "I
don't agree that god exists. I simply don't know whether he does or
not" (and you can replace "know" with "can't prove" or any other
modality to taste).

Hi,

I recently installed RH6.2 on a HP Kayak XA workstation which used to host a
Win9X system before(removed). After having lots of problems with the display
(because of incorrect resolution settings) and the mouse (cursor would position
itself on the LH corner and not move from there. Cured by choosing the right
driver for it), I was able to get XFree86 running on it. But I've been
experiencing sudden random freezes while in Gnome. Also, things seem to be very
slow, though that observation might also hold true when in console mode (without
X). There doesn't seem to be any pattern to the freezes. The one thing worth
mentioning is that the system seems to be using the SCSI driver for the PCI bus.

Relevant o/p of dmesg:

I am also attaching the XF86Config file.

Would appreciate any help.

Hal,

I seem to have been running 3.3.6 on my nVidia card.

But doing (finally) the sensible thing and reading /var/log/messages, I
see that the freeze happens after crond runs rmmod, as follows:

Feb 4 14:40:00 ool-18be6c45 CROND[1033]: (root) CMD ( /sbin/rmmod
-as)
Feb 4 14:41:29 ool-18be6c45 kernel: usb.c: USB disconnect on device 2

Feb 4 23:50:01 ool-18be6c45 kernel: hdd: ATAPI 6X CD-ROM CD-R/RW drive,
768kB Cache
Feb 4 23:50:36 ool-18be6c45 kernel: usb.c: USB disconnect on device 2

Feb 5 20:21:05 ool-18be6c45 kernel: usb.c: USB disconnect on device 2
Feb 5 20:21:05 ool-18be6c45 apmd[439]: System Suspend

So I'm guessing that I should try removing USB support from my kernel.
Can you point me to where I can find out how to do that?

Thanks,
Fred

Hello,

how far does your machine boot, syslogd gets on my distro (SuSE) started
in runlevel 1.

Try booting from floppy/CD, boot some kind of rescue system on them,
mount your /var where ever
it is to /tmp and take a look if something got logged in the depending
on your syslog.conf various files
in /var/log/, this could give some help what goes wrong..

Hope you have a hardcopy of your fstab handy or know on which partition
it is...:-)

Good luck
