If it's a bttv (but you mean bt848?), then you need to load the driver
(bttv?) driver and run xawtv. That's "all".

You have to configure the driver.

How are you trying? See the appropriate howtos in case of need.

> Has anyone used a BTTV card on Linux?

Millions.

> Has anyone set up a web cam using a BTTV card?

I don't know what you mean. A bt card needs a driver. If it's a capture
card and not a tv card, then I'm not absolutely sure that the bttv
driver is the appropriate one, but I believe it is - you will have
to point it at the "camera" input, perhaps, using xawtv.

> I'd prefer to run it without using Xwindows if possible but first I'd like

It's not really possible without X, since it is a graphical capture
card, so you need graphics! At least for setup.

The next supertheory apparently resolves the parallel universes
possibility, but I don't understand (or recall) how. I think that
it works out that the observer is involved, somehow, and the parallel
universes only reflect free will in the math. Ask someone else.

No .. there are infinite amounts of anything (points on a real line ..)
everywhere you look. These might or might not be mental constructs only.

I think that's sufficient reason to seriously doubt it. I'd rather
have beliefs that I can test with tools. It's not good to believe that
your program satisfies the specification and tell the customers that
your faith is enough.

Hi, i recently bought SuSE Linux 7.0 and i can't install it. I already
have Win98 and i want to be able to do dual boot. I created a Linux
primary partition (/) from cylinder 650 to 1225 but it gives me the
message that the partition won't be able to boot by itself or something
like that. What should i do? Should i install Lilo at MBR or what?
My e-mail is [EMAIL PROTECTED]

they kick the pants out of anything for windows.

Oh, i thought you just wanted software that worked, didnt realise you had
it good. On your point about GUIs, kpilot is looking very promising,
especially as it integrates with korginizer etc. But its only the 2.1
source tree, so you have to upgrade to a beta to get it to work.

Yeah, i would like to hear about these other utilities, i didnt realise
there were any.

The entry need not be in ~/.Xdefaults. The X server searches in many
places. See the environment variables XUSERFILESEARCHPATH,
XAPPLRESDIR, XFILESEARCHPATH, and possibly others. (That's where
`appres' gets the information from.)

`xrdb' reads from the server itself. You can call `xrdb' to enter
resources into the server from anywhere, I don't know of your setup.

Take a look at par, this allows you to extract records from a pdb file,
I've found it usefull, look for it at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Also txt2pdbdoc, the title is self explainatory, I don't remember where
I got it, I'm sorry to say, but I'll be happy to send it to you, it's
not large.

I realize that now. I was desparate and hoping that would have something
to do with the problem. I now realize it was a blind alley.

But, obviously, that has nothing to do with the problem either, since
putting /usr/lib/gtk/themes/engines into /etc/ld.so.conf and rerunning
ldconfig -v does not help either.

So what do I do so that Netscape does not complain anymore?
I.e., HOW DO I GET /usr/lib/gtk/themes/engines INTO THE module_path THAT
Netscape IS COMPLAINING ABOUT?

If by `there' you men "in xrdb's output", then it comes from some file
whose content was explicitly loaded into your Xserver with another
call to `xrdb'. This is often done as part of the login process
with something like `xrdb ~/.Xresources', so you might want to check
if you have such a file.

Linux can write to FAT16 so you could try making an adequately sized
FAT16 partition on your Windows machine.

No such file, I did a 'ls -a ~' and looked for anything that might be
used for resources ( even checked various ~/.subdirs ). Is it possible

that xrdb keeps a persistent database somewhere ( I believe it does so
with Solaris, I often have problems with the rdb being out of sync
with initialization files on it ) that gets loaded at login?

You should read the "something like that" more carefully. It claimed
that you were boooting from above the 1024 cyl limit, as you yourself
just stated.

> My e-mail is [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Groovy. Well, stelios, you should make a boot partition (for the /boot
directory) that is below the 1024 cyl limit or you should read the
instructions that come with your distro or you should install a
distro that comes with a loader that doesn't have that limit.

AFAIK win ? doesn't come with ftpd, you just get a small ftp client deliverd
from Redmond.

Sounds like a wrong routing setup, try with

tracert

from MS-DOS box where your packets go.

You should be able to ping your boxes with name and IP before you go on.

Try
route -n

on your Linux box if you can ping your winbox from Linux routing is OK, try to
adjust the
routing on your win-box.

There are many ways, I would try samba.
www.samba.org has docs how you do this. On your win box
you have to setup access for your data, then you can mount it from Linux.

apropos smb should show you the available man pages on this topic on your Linux
machine

Good luck
