Hmm isn't that why UNIX has killall? Or do I not understand what a

Unfortunately I will not be able to paste all the info, into this message.
I am running Debian potato. My ISP is with Sympatico HSE.
I have read through many How-to's and I am still stuck... a little nudge in
the right direction would be perfect.
I had a DSL router before and everything was perfect.. my linux machine was
on the net in seconds flat. Since then I have got rid of the router because
I want my linux machine to be the gateway to the internet.
I have been editing way too many files and I am sure I have screwed things
up. Unfortunately I can not get that machine back on the internet to do a
re-install so I have to work with what I have. A bunch of floppies and do a
re-install.. or work with what I have and just fix it up some. I vote for
the later solution.
The desired outcome would be.
Internal network (Localhost gives out DHCP address's)
=======================================================
localhost 192.168.1.1
range 192.168.1.10 192.168.1.20
broadcast 192.168.1.255
subnetmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1
Sympatico's network is (PPPoE)
=================================
DNS1 = 204.101.251.1
DNS2 = 204.101.251.2
Sympatico IP's look like
=========================
64.x.x.x
I also want to be able to have a local domain called... (HOME)
and I want to be able to connect to my machine from outside, using something
like (CJB.NET)
If I type 'netstat -r' or 'route -n' I get nothing, by that I mean, I just
get the title line.
If I type 'ifconfig -a' I get back eth0, eth1, lo, ppp0, and tunl0.
Like I said, I am not sure what I am doing wrong but at this point I can't
even get my linux machine to network internally or on the internet. Can
someone please help me. I already followed the How-to for PPPoE for debian.
What I am looking for is what should my route tables look for and
specifically which files should I be editing. Thanks in advance to all who
respond.

'man tar' doesn't say anything. However, 'info tar' says:
GNU tar' returns only a few exit statuses. I'm really
aiming simplicity in that area, for now. If you are not
using the --compare' (--diff', -d') option, zero means that
everything went well, besides maybe innocuous warnings.
Nonzero means that something went wrong. Right now, as of
today, "nonzero" is almost always 2, except for remote
operations, where it may be 128.
So, it appears that you are only guaranteed that it is zero for
success and non-zero for failure.

MS access may be rubbish, but it indeed provides a frontend which is
extremely friendly for people who just want to USE a database. If you are a
person who want to BUILD a database, there is no challenge in Access.
BTW I use a linux based MySQL database connected to my Windows PC on which
I have a very usefull Access frontend, connected with MyODBC to MySQL.
Works perfect. The StarOffice DB frontend is terrible.

Games Minimum System Requirements, as printed on game boxes are a joke.
What they mean to say is, "minimum system required to run game at 320 x 200
x 16 bit colour mode with 10 fps." or some other equally obscore resolution.
Anyone serious about playing Quake should have at least a 17" monitor, and
on a monitor that size, you'd be an idiot to play the game in anything less
than 1024 x 768 x 32... I'd shudder at the thought of playing Q3A on a
K6-2/250 with 4mb AGP card. If we are to believe minimum specs' on
software - Windows 95 only needs 8 MB of memory you know.

This is not a problem, it's a fact (please distinguish the two - we may
be able to help you better if you do).
> out how to keep it from loading, but haven't figured it out. Can anybody
> point me in the right direction?
Turn it off, or switch to a virtual console with ctrl-alt-f1 (or f2,
f3, ..) if you simply wanted a text console! To turn it off, you'd
just have to stop the xdm-alike loading. The most obvious way
to do that is to boot into a non-X runlevel. I think 2 or 3 will do.
I.e. boot with "linux 3", for example. Once in (or any other time)
you can alter the default initial runlevel by editing the
line near the top of /etc/inittab.
# The default runlevel.
id:4:initdefault:
Change it to 3.
If you want to change to runlevel 3 in your current login session,
issue a "telinit 3".
You may well want to remove the links to /etc/init.d/xdm in
the /etc/rc[23].d/ directories, in case there are any.
There may also be a file like /etc/X11/kdm/config that
you could edit to additional effect.
Now, what is your REAL problem? Why do you think you want to get
rid of xdm?

I used to run a p2-300 + v3 without much issues. It was in vertex mode and
at 800*600 but I still managed to get 40-50 fps. The person with his Dual p2
setup should have NO problems running Q3.
I still have my V3 in my new Athlon tbrid 750 on a 21" screen and still run
it at 800*600. Yes the display would be better at a higher resolution but I
prefer to keep stable at 60fps at all times instead of having the variations
I get when I run at the higher resolutions.

Hello,
I would like to use Linux to make a bootable DOS CD with some DOS
utilities on it. The reason I need to do this is I bought an ASUS
CUV4X motherboard that had a bug in the floppy drive controller
and now I need to upgrade the BIOS from DOS to fix this but I do
not have a version of DOS installed hence I need to make a bootable
CD with DOS as the BIOS update can only be performed from real mode
DOS and I cannot make a bootable DOS floppy because as I explained
I cannot get the floppy drive to work.
Any suggestions are welcome,
Thanks,
