This line suggests that you don't have a driver for this camera.

This is probably because you don't have a driver for the camera.

Sorry to intrude, but I have an external device with similar message.

Can we make it work by assigning irq, and that specific address of the
device ?
I mean, by editing some confi. file, which I do not know. I am a novice.

it might be worthwhile checking you distro web site too find out what they
support (in terms of hardware)

I did not think they covered dig cameras yet (due for the next release of

I am waiting for my winmodem driver and PC Cam - then I can finally say bye

Since the possibility exists that the original poster doesn't have the resources to
migrate even a statically-linked gcc compiler to his machine, I tend to agree. Then
again, why the distro would even release a beta without tools to test/build/patch
is completely beyond me...

Hi all,

I am installing debian into my old 486. Since no cd drive nor internet
connection, I have to use floppies. I have installed the basic system.
When I plan to install further software, I can not find ctags and libz1
package. Where are they?

Thank you very much.

As others posted, there are various solution possible, here is one more
using awk, just be aware that this won't work if the filename contains
more then one dot.

ls *.c | awk -F. '{system("mv "$1"."$2" "$1".C")}'

If you are using OpenGL screen savers but do not have Mesa or other
OpenGL support this will happen. Try making sure that your screen saver
is *not* OpenGL, or else be sure you have OpenGL (or Mesa) support.

I know basically *nothing* about USB devices, but it *looks* like they
are treated similarly to PCMCIA devices. Presumably there is someplace
a config file that maps the 'vend/prod 0x4a9/0x3041' codes to a driver.
You need the driver mentioned in this config file (this is how PCMCIA
works). OR you need to preload the driver and it adds itself to a chain
of USB drivers and the code in usb.c does the mapping. The important
thing is you need the kernel driver module someplace. You might want to
visit http://www.linux-usb.org/. There is a driver for the Cannon
Powershot (S10). You use the *scanner* driver. Visit
http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/, click on device overview, select
'image' devices. Here is the info
(http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdv.php3?id=108):

Details for Canon Powershot {S10} Status:[partially supported]
    Description Canon Powershot S10 (USB+serial)
    ID 0x4a9:0x3041
    Driver scanner (http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdr.php3?id=8)
    Linux-USB link
    Vendor link
Default scanner driver does not support it
yet; there is a hack-like approach that
Comment works to a degree and is based on scanner
module. No web site (yet) for the project,
                            I think.

/dev/mouse is likely a symbolic link pointing at the actual /dev/ file.
What is the result of:
ls -l /dev/mouse ???

It should point at something else. For a PS2 mouse, it should point to
/dev/psaux. If it points elsewhere, this is your problem. If so, you can
remove symbolic links without hurting the file it points at, so cd to
/dev/, then "rm /dev/mouse", and recreate pointing to psaux:
ln -s psaux mouse

I'm fairly sure that install kernels have ps2 support, so it is unlikely
the problem, but if you have recompiled the kernel, you must also add
support for ps2 mice there.

mmv
<interactive shell active>
*.c #1.C
ctrl-D
<interactive shell ends>

simple, and more usable, since you can reformat the filenames
mmv pic\*-pose\*.jpg \#2-jennifer-aniston-\#1.jpg
etc. ;-)

What I have heard works is to first tar AND gzip /bzip the file, then tar it
again onto floppies directly...?

Subject: XMMS core dumps constantly
Date: Tue, 22 May 2001 19:34:43 +0200

Hi!

Is there an XMMS faq somewhere or can somebody help - I have RedHat 6.0 -
sndconfig runs fine and plays the sample of Linus' voice and the midi
sample. However, trying to play any MP3 with XMMS in Xwindows core dumps -
no matter what user or what MP3 file. I have already tried chmod'ding my
/dev/audio /dev/dsp /dev/mixer etc to a=rwx but nothing seems to help - I
tried chown'ing to root, or any other user these devices too - 0 luck - XMMS
just keeps dumping core like clockwork. Anybody got any ideas in what
direction I can head to fix this?

Thanks!

Stefan

Hi Morris,
I've had the same problem, if I have an other SCSI-Controller aktivated in
the Kernel.
I'm sorry, but I can't remember on the name of this.
So, I will suggest to remove all unused SCSI Controllers from the Kernel.
I hope, this helps.
Cheers Juergen

http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages
will help you identify packages.

Thanks... but I should have posted that it is a symlink to /dev/psaux...
changing the reference from one to the other doesn't seem to help...
same errors...

I haven't recompiled the kernel, so that isn't the problem... mostly I
am wondering why it worked during the install, but not now after the
install...

Thanks,
JH

AMI MegaRaids work, and pulls from older machines can be found pretty
cheaply (and the 2.4.4 kernel has a fix for the stability issues that
I've seen on fast machines), and Mylex controllers also work.

I like the AMI setup routine better than the Mylex routine - but I like
the Mylex cards and drivers better than the AMI cards.
