No it's not. Since browsers are all free to render HTML in
different ways, it's not even _theoretically_ possible to write
a WYSIWYG editor.

No such thing. People who use what they think are WYSIWYG HTML
editors are just fooling themselves. Maybe you like the way
the editor renders the file, but you've got no assurances that
it will be rendered the same on other systems.

Last time I checked it didn't do forms.

Yes. Been there, done that.
Shrinking/growing partitions with parted is sort of time
consuming -- last time I shrunk a partition it took 10-15
minutes. Make sure you've got a book to read...

If you attache an RTF file (created with Ted) or a plain text
file with a type of '.txt' then Windows users can just click on
it and have word open it. If you attach a pdf file, they can
click on it and acroread will open it.

There were some issues about POP3 and shaddow-password files. It was
one of the reason I started using IMAP in stead of POP3. I kinda
lost track of it. Do POP3-servers work with shaddow passwd now?

I love idiot clients. They are sooo good for making me beer money.
Explain (once) to them that they are losing money by not getting you the
resources you need to do your job. When they ignore you (they will) sit
back and relax. Pad the billables but keep a detailed log of all the
hassle you go thru trying to access their systems/network. Remember, the
one to two hours per day that it takes you to update your task log is also
billable. :-)

I've been having pretty much zero success getting my Voodoo II card to work
under linux (debian 2.2)
I've installed glide (the version labled as for a voodoo2) and mesa and it
works right up until it tries to detect my card, it says "expected voodoo
but none found" (or something very similar, I'm actually on a different
machine right now) but when I cat /proc/pci it's clearly there, it's even
labled as a Voodoo2...
what am I missing? I've read all the documentation that comes with glide and
mesa (not a lot, to be honest, and it all assumes that detection of hardware
went perfectly, grr!) with no joy...
looking forward to a one-liner you-forgot-to-plug-it-in style reply ;)

For forgot to compile and install the 3dfx kernel module :-) If you're
using a 2.4 kernel, you'll need to grab the source code from the
glide.sourceforge.net CVS tree... Visit that site for more info.

For strong encryption, GNU equivalent to pgp (gpgp) is fairly easy with
individual files. For mass encryption, you can create an encrypted
partition, but it is more involved (especially if you want strong
encryption).

Last time I tried it was with 4.0.1 and it failed to produce a usable
config file. "No Screens" error. Perhaps it has been fixed.
Whether fixed or not "XFree86 -configure" with a little editing WRT the
mouse produces a usable config file which can be further tuned with xf86cfg.

Linux is most happy with an external RS232 modem that speaks the Hayes
AT command set -- basically just about any vanilla external modem. A US
Robotics external Sportster should would just fine (Sportsters sell for
something under $100 these days). There are various cheaper external
modems, but cheap == low quality. If you need an 'industrial grade'
modem and can strong-arm your employer into paying for it, a US
Robotics Courier V.Everything (retails for like $300) is an
indestructible modem that works excellently with Linux. There are ISA
modems that are 'real' modems that Linux can handle and a *few* PCI
modems that are 'real' modems or have one of the two or three
'supported' controller-less chip-sets ('win/lin'-modems). (Supported ==
closed source drivers).
PPP should be easily setup -- there are Gnome and KDE GUI toys for
setting up the PPP dialer hackery or you can use minicom for a non-PPP
connection.
Linux is POSIX UNIX -- that is Linux is more like *standard* UNIX than
any of the commercial UNIXes. Linux is *technically*, but not *legally*
UNIX -- for an O/S to be called 'UNIX' requires two things: 1) it needs
to pass the technical test of being POSIX compliant (Linux passes this
test) and 2) someone needs to pay for the use of the trademark -- since
no one 'owns' Linux, there is no one to 'pay' the trademark fee. Linux
will be much like the Suns, although Solaris is a 'Sys 5' variant
(SunOS 4.x is a BSD variant).
Linux is somewhere between Sys 5 and BSD (in terms of things like ps
and such like) -- most Linux distros use a Sys 5 style init
(/etc/rc.d/rc[0123456].d/ containing symlinks to scripts in
/etc/rc.d/init.d/), although some (Slackware) use the BSD-ish
/slack30/etc/rc.d/rc.* style). (RedHat uses the Sys 5 style init.)
If you have used SunOS and Solaris, you should be right at home with
Linux. A few minor differences here and there, but nothing you can't
catch onto in 5 minutes of reading man pages. For example, Linux does
not have either Bourne shell nor Csh. Instead Linux has bash (a
super-set of the Bourne shell) and tcsh (a super-set of csh). bash
works just like Bourne shell, plus does more. (/bin/sh is a link to
/bin/bash and /bin/csh is a link to /bin/tcsh)

The VIA686A and VIA686B had problems, specifically, hardware problems
relating to the transfer of data from one IDE interface to another when
DMA was enabled. The VIA686 is used on the KT7 and KT7-RAID. Are you
using RedHat 7.1's stock kernel, by any chance? That has a special
chunk of code that looks for a VIA686 chipset and disables DMA if it
finds one. With the latest BIOS for my KT7 and kernel 2.4.5, I'm
cooking along with DMA enabled at 23M/s. Check, and of course, YMMV.
