Hi, fans of S3 Virge
I have also a video card S3 Virge with 2MB memory and it works fine at
1024x768 and 16 bit color.
It works on RedHat and it worked on Slackware.
Try to use XF86Setup . It is a GUI setup for X. It makes a probe of your
videocard ad finally is offering you the best resolution and colors
which suits to your videocard+monitor.
Look in /etc/X11/XF86Config file
In monitor section I have, not commented,
Horizsync 31.5 - 48.5
VertRefresh 50 - 90
Modeline "1024x768" 65 1024 1032 1176 1344 768 771 777 806 -hsync
-vsync
In Screen sections at "The accelerated servers" I have
Driver "accel"
Device "My Video Card"
Monitor "My monitor"
Subsection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "1024x768"
WiewPort 0 0
Virtual 1024 768
If you have 4MB ram it will work fine with 24 bit and the above Depth
will be 24 instead of 16.
The Modeline is the most important. It is something about the ramdac
clock on your card (read the X86 HOWTO).
Maybe it helps you.
Best regards,
Cristian Carnutu
