Okay, the reason I didn't go into "how" is because there are numerous ways
to do it. It depends greatly on what process you are trying to restart.
It would be a bit like me giving you directions to somewhere before I know
where you want to go.
If you would like specific answers, ask specific questions.

Hey hold on there! Please tell me how what I wrote can be considered
flaming ? I was being general, wasn't referring to anybody in
particular, and certainly wasn't being rude.
What I said about people constantly re-booting Linux is true. And this is
why. Someone who comes to Linux with a Windows background is naturally
going to be thinking with a Windows mindset. It can't be any other way.
There is nothing fatally wrong with that. And I was just trying to make
that person aware that Linux is more different from Windows than they
currently know.
My aim was to make the newbie say "...you mean I don't have to re-boot to
get this going properly...hmmm...okay, how do I do xyz then...". I
apologise if you took what I said as a personal insult, it wasn't meant as
such.

I doubt if I would be able to reply to this address, our two networks
don't talk to each other unless there is a gateway. Richard Adams may be
able to tell you more about this.
