I think that modem is a "winmodem" which would not work with Linux. Check
the list at http://www.o2.net/~gromitkc/19990430a.html to be sure.

"tsy1"? I hope you just typed this wrong. The correct device is
"/dev/ttyS1" (note capital S). You should also have a link from /dev/modem
to /dev/ttyS1. This allows programs to be configured with only one symbol
(/dev/modem) and allows you to change the modem location by just changing
the link, not all the configurations.

Your HostName and Domain should not affect being able to access the modem
but will come into play when you try to connect to your ISP for internet
access. Assuming you are using a single computer, not on a network, you
need to create your own host and domain names. Look in /usr/doc/HOWTO's
for further information on related subjects.
