But to be sure, look it up on the database at
http://www.o2.net/~gromitkc/19990826a.html . It lists USR "V.90" modems that
are ISA and that work with Linux, and at least one that is PCI and,
officially, classed as unknown (but in reality, it's *probably* an HSP modem
("Winmodem").
If it turns out to be an HSP modem, then you need to replace it with a
Linux-compatible modem before you go any further; this database will give
you plenty to choose from. If it is *not* an HSP modem, then you need to be
more specific about what "the modem doesn't work at all" means in terms of
what you're trying and what results you are seeing.
