Then, as I (and others) suspected, it's probably a WinModem, which
means it's useless in Linux. Ditch it and get an external or an ISA
internal. AFAIK, ALL ISA internal modems are non-winmodems. However,
all but one or two PCI internal modems are WinModems, AFAIK.

You'll really be better off getting a "real" hardware modem, instead
of a software-based modem, both in Linux and in Windows.
