I've also got a US Robotics internal 56K fax/modem, and here's my status with trying to get it working. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks!
Red Hat 6.0
AMD K-6 200 mhz
The modem has a UART 16550A
It works with windows and mac os.
It's a ISA Plug & Pray modem and I read that I have to use the "isapnp" program to set the IRQ and port settings on the modem before I can use it since there's no jumpers.
I read all the posts in this thread, and used the isapnp program to configure the modem. I got it to work and the isapnp program configured the modem with the following properties:
Port - 0X2e8
IRQ 3
Enabled OK
It's also card #2 on my machine.
I ran isapnp and tried to use the modem, but it still doesn't dial. I then went to the isapnp web site at http://www.roestock.demon.co.uk/isapnptools/ . The FAQ there says that you have to run the isapnp program before initializing the drivers for the modem, or to use "setserial" to set up the modem after using isapnp.
So this is where I am stuck. Will I have to edit my initab file to do this? Or can I do it after I boot? Any help would be really appreciated. Also, am I on the right track here? I'm a complete newbie with Linux and could be headed in the completely wrong direction.
