Ok, here is the oops that I captured via a serial console when my machine locked up while copying a file to my external usb 2.0 hard drive enclosure. This is with the latest usb drivers for the 2.4 kernel.
That looks like a Mandrake kernel, so I doubt very much that it's got the current EHCI driver. And wasn't that a binary-only NVidia driver? Don't send problem reports for kernels that are using such proprieatary code.
Instead, try 2.4.20-pre11 with the EHCI update (already mentioned on this list) that's identified at the top of http://www.linux-usb.org/usb2.html Given the particular oops you sent, I suspect that patch will fix your problem. If it doesn't, make sure your next mention of trouble tells exactly what hardware you're using, since it'll seem hardware-related.
