Without SMP and with the duo connect card still in the machine... it still locked up. I then removed the card (duo connect) and tested it again. On the first copy attempt it quit sending data to the drive after about 15GB. My machine did not lock up but I couldn't access the external drive anymore and my machine would not reboot (I had to hit the reset switch).
So just a hardware change (no duo connect) made a major improvement. That's good to know. So far I've only heard about trouble from that particular card (under Linux anyway).
You didn't say this test was done with 2.4.20-pre11 PLUS that EHCI patch. Was it? That patch did get rid of at least one failure mode of that type. (And I've seen usb-storage doing strange stuff too.)
I haven't tried my usb enclosure under winblows yet... that may be next on my list. Anyways, I would greatly appreciate any ideas you have about the usb hard drive enclosure or why all combinations of usb and firewire on my duo connect card under winblows works and I have problems under linux.
Not all USB devices work smoothly under Linux. There's a database of compatible devices, which you can access through http://www.linux-usb.org, and not all enclosures seem to be equally happy with the usb-storage driver (vendors are quirkier than in many other cases). I have no idea what's up with the firewire stuff. - Dave ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf _______________________________________________ [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe, use the last form field at: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/linux-usb-users
