Hello All,
I am looking at Fedora has anyone tried it?
At the moment I have RH 7.2 and looking at upgrading to 7.3 or even 8.0.
As any got any comments on this?
from memory redhat changed the location of the startup files when they went beyond release 7. in rh 8,9 and fedora the startup files are in /etc/init.d .... (or something like that)
i run a rh8 server with qmail/apache/zope and have had no problems (other than my own lack of understanding) i haven't installed X because all the config is done using vi
i've installed rh9 on my toshiba satellite 2800 without a hitch. autodetected everything except the winmodem, i use a pcmcia xircom modem so that was no problem. configured X straight without a hitch, detected the sceen and toshy video card ...
got tired of rh9 so i installed fedora ... works even better. later versions of software. here's the real cool bit .....
i have a dick smith usb hard drive (2.5 lappy version). formatted fat32 with the fedora iso in their own dir. booted from the fedora cd, specified askmeth on the boot menu. the install recognises the usb drive, asks for the directory with isos and will install off the usb drive ...... way cool
no real reason to do it this way except i had the usb drive plugged in and saw it being auto detected.
i have never done an upgrade on any of my systems. i just back me files up, do a new install and work from that
cheers
Martin
