Who cares if Kiwis can't find jobs vs. immigrants (that's their problem, compete already)? Then go to their country, or others and take THEIR jobs (Ok, so you may not want to move to India or Pakistan, fine, I am SURE there are plenty of other lovely places on this planet to live and work other than NZ).
Remember, we were ALL immigrants into a country at some point in our history. Who decides when that should be stopped? AFTER we get here...of course. I think most Immigration laws are here to simply keep a tax base captive for civilised countries. This is getting into the deep and murky waters of Immigration Law, Tax Policy and Global orchestration/manipulation of laws for the universal benefit of the super wealthy. This is a flame war waiting to happen but Robert did warn us... LOL I am trying to find out how this can be twisted to be OSS related but I am struggling at this point so sorry for the OT Post.

I have no problem with immigrants filling positions which cannot be filled by New Zealanders though.

There may well be jobs in Auckland, but the point system for qualifying for residency awards more points to folk who settle outside of Auckland (I am in touch with quite a number of residency seekers).
The current way it works is this - first get a work permit (you'll need to get an offer for a job that can't be filled easily by New Zealanders - call centres employ a lot of english speaking foreigners). Once you're settled you can start applying for residency. This seems to have replaced the old practice of applying for residency from overseas.
