There are drivers for the Intel 536ep  -  typically Dick Smith XH1154 PCI
modem which comes with a CD with Linux drivers.

Conexant HCF.  Search for hcfpcimodem-0.99

These work for the 2.4.x kernels, dont know about 2.6.x
