I beg to differ, imho, it's a stroke of ultimate genius, because they know that knowledge is power and fully appreciate that if they siphon / vacuum the World's email into their own searchable repositories, they will, in time, become exceedingly wealthy by charging inordinate search fees, separately no doubt, to all the World's various TLAs etc., etc.
But you *can* set it to be whatever you want, it doesn't need to be your gmail account. The problem then, is, that you can't subscribe to multiple email lists with one account. Oh well, they'll be freely available soon enough.
