that windows info is often misleading IME. Worth a look of course, and
you will see from the thread that thats why vatsala reinstalled windows!

and i don't think its a distro issue.

assuming it has a pcmcia port LOL. 

Do you know any good ones for sale for a reasonable price in chch and
that work with linux?

PS just looked up the specs, it has one pc card slot, so the pcmcia
option should work. the modem is described as :"56k Data/Fax v.92 MDC" -
I'll report back to the list after i catch up with vatsala.
