All distributions have made valiant efforts to put the dependencies problem 
into history.
How has SuSE done this in their distro?

It works perfectly with my ThinkPad which runs at 1024x768 @ 60Hz frame 
rate. I think your comments about multi-sync are true, the image quality 
always suffers when a different sync rate is used on projectors.
