Good - you have thought before hitting send. And, it is a good letter. ====================== I think, from memory, that noone has the time/energy/enthusiasm to be a moderator. Indeed, it could open a can of worms. "Why did you accept that email, but not the one I sent??" Thus, the moderator is involved in private discussion about his moderating actions. Personally, I would rather spent my time answering questions on linux, or writing code. Yes, there have been people who have missed the boat, and sent unwise emails. All of us have been guilty of this. Google a bit, and you will find some dumb ones from me. Personally, that we do have people who send unwise emails is merely an indication that we are normal people. In any group of a thousand people, there is going to be one person who oversteps the mark. There was an article in the Christchurch press today about email, and it quoted a survey that showed that of some uni students, many did not think before they hit the send button. Now, I think that with time, people do learn and do start to think. Perhaps not. I have seen long term linux people arguing that it is ok to do flamewars. We have discussed flamewars on this list before, and the agreement was that it is never ok. Sorry, mistyped. The people who reject flamewars kept coming up with good arguements. The people who accept flamewars failed to make any reasonable discussion. There was no agreement. The flamewar proponents failed to substantiate their view. My view on posts to clug is simple. Am I happy for a potential employer, or my wife, or my current employer to open up one of my emails and read it? It will be read out of context, so it has to be acceptable, without knowing the provocation for the email. Derek. > Rob > -- Derek Smithies Ph.D. IndraNet Technologies Ltd.
