Thanks for all the input and ideas guys.
Yes Don, we do flyers as well & posters as well - will update on that
point separately.
So the short answer is..

Rik,
We've spent c$800-900 for three year's running to develop SFD. That
bought three approx A5 size ads - two Saturday 'run of paper' (as near
to the front as overnight layout allows) and one Tuesday 'Technology'
placement. These were colour ads first time round, but now we have quite
plain black on white / line art style, due to increased charges.
That's a significant investment in advertising. I hate to sound all
businesslike, but what was the return on that investment?
I certainly don't see an investment of any amount that has been
suggested as providing any significant return for CLUG.
If you look at the takings for the October meeting for the last few
years (the first meetings following SFD) they were very low.
Maybe there is a return on that investment somewhere else that I don't
know about, but so far, CLUG hasn't benefited from it.
Indeed.
There has been no return to CLUG from SFD because CLUG has not yet been
directly involved in it. This is the annual invitation to do so / grow
some benefits - via some agreed collective/subsidised advertising.
For those not going to 7.30-9.30pm South Learning Centre tonight, we
will simply go with the best indication given as to what to do. Same
each year.
(Personally, I see changing times affecting every community
detrimentally now, as to why / what to do about low attendances).
Anyhow, all good. Catch you at the outcome..
Maybe there is a better (and probably cheaper) way of getting the word
out than advertising in the press. Hands up who takes any notice of
the small adds in the Press.
I know we are not in this for the money, but there must be better uses
for this money than donating it to the Press.
I agree 100% with what David says.
Yep, that exploitation rankles alright. But it got us started (- cheaper
than yachting ;)
