The last problem with sendmail reported for 8.13.8, over a year ago so I think 
your comments could be considered overly critical, given the volumes of email 
it processes, it's one of the biggest ( some say the biggest - 
http://www.oreillynet.com/lpt/a/6849 ) targets.

This compares well with postfix, qmail, exim and far better than exchange. 

Personally, I wouldn't use anything else. However I freely admit that my bias 
has come from trialling all the alternatives at a lesser state of maturity than 
today, and finding they failed miserably in some way or another. They may well 
be better now - probably are - but I can get sendmail to reliably do everything 
I want it to so I'm not going to throw away many years of learning to replace 
it now.
