question first to check they are OK with the 'must boot knoppix' idea.
A a question for Dave G, what sort of spec are you looking for? I've
got an old 486 laptop that runs DSL (barely) you can have for well under
$1k. :-).

it doesn't have to be all that flash at all as I want it as a bit of a
knock around but I need to running some $windoze only mapping software &
GPS using VMware so I probably need 500mb min. ram and better than 1-1.5
gig processor I guess??
