Just got KDE going - it had even worse screen corruption - instead of
just icons getting fuzzed whole toolbars and conqueror pages get zapped
to black streaky things... but on subsequent logons it seems to behave
itself better. Unfortunately, I don't like the interface, or I've become
accustomed to gnome - anyway I'll change back to gnome.

I think I steer clear of these - I'm just want something reliable that
gets security updates and looks after itself. Except for this glitch on
this machine Ubuntu has been looking pretty good so far.
