I don't care for AMD at any time
Based on what facts and arguments? Just out of interest.
I've had only AMD 64bit for the past 8 years and can't complain. No
buggy chipsets either that I've heard of and that cause recalls or
manufacturer's service replacements.

Have 5 within reach as we speak.
I'll add in my vote for AMD. I've not been convinced (as a non-gamer)
for a long time that the much higher price of comparable Intel CPUs is
worthwhile.
A few more things to think about. Paying attention to the motherboard,
look at how many memory slots there are, you want one with 4, not 2. If
you are like me, with a dozen or 3 tabs open in your browser and a
virtual machine or 2 doing various things as well as what ever else, you
certainly want to max out your RAM installation from the start. Forget
any ideas of a 32bit OS and it's memory limitations.
In the past I've often overlooked power supplies and cases until the
last minute. If you are overhauling an existing box, does your existing
PS have sufficient rating and the correct number and types of plugs for
powering the motherboard and various drives? Resist the temptation to
go for lowest cost combos of PS/case for <$100. A quality PS, and well
designed case, are worthy investments.
Cheers,
Roger
