Sounds like an overloaded cable service in your street. I have seen slowdowns in the evenings too, but not real failures. > Also at night I can not log into my router, presumably because the > router is having trouble making a connection to telstra Theoretically you should still be able to connect to the Telstra cablemodem (no password needed) even if it hasn't connected to Telstra. The cablemodem's status page should show the connection status of the modem to Telstra. Mine does, but it's an old job. Power cycle to modem (pull its power plug). Don't bother with the useless on-off button on the top. > Any ideas on how to fix the problem welcome, change provider?? Complain to provider. They're pretty good at addressing this. Might pay to call them when the problem is big so they can get a real-time look. ---- Derek, this is the Telstra cable modem service, not some pesky *DSL offering. Where did people get the impression Barry is talking about wireless? Barry, if however you have failed to establish whether the problem is between your laptop and the cable modem or between the cablemodem and Telstra, don't waste your time complaining to Telstra about your wifi. In that case most likely all your neigbours have turned theirs on too and everyone is interfering with everyone else's signal. Changing channel is your only option. And ask questions better next time ;-)) Volker -- Volker Kuhlmann http://volker.top.geek.nz/ Please do not CC list postings to me. _______________________________________________ Linux-users mailing list [email protected] http://lists.canterbury.ac.nz/mailman/listinfo/linux-users
