Hi, Can you explain your network better. Is your ubuntu installation replacing your windows box or in addition to it? Also are you using a router with DHCP or sharing your internet connection using 'internet connection sharing" with your windows box? You ubuntu box has to be configured for the network either manually or via DHCP. What is the interface info for your ubuntu box compared to your windows box?
