Your Windows box does not have any bearing on your Linux box.

If you are using a dial-in modem, most Windows modems will not work with 
Linux... Linux much prefers hardware modems, like US Robotics v.Everything.

Even if your dial-up modem works, it will still have to be configured to 
work in an application like kppp, to connect with your ISP.

If you have a DSL connection, you can usually get it to work simply by 
telling your Linux box to look for DHCP when it boots... it will query 
your DSL modem/router for an IP address and DNS info, and as long as the 
DSL modem is not 'Windows Only' (most aren't), you will be on-line 
automatically.
