I see you use apache what is it another of these type of systems but built for servers on your print server do you run linux and problems using it I think I am going to take the jump to lynux which version would be best has I said I have a CD that came with the laser not sure why but it is 3 disks and it says mandrake linux operating system 6.5 then I have the ubonto disk i ordered funny I ordered one and like 10 showed up o well so which version of lynux is best and like I said can i still use it the way I am right now were i have the dsl modem then that goes to the router that then all the computers hook into can I do that with linux were you talked about running the modem straight into the print server then how do the other computers hook in does it have another nic card that goes to the router. when I got the gateway i am going to use for the print server it had to nic cards a I guess you call it a normal one just a regular nick card then the other one has the regular connector and a bnc convector since the gateway came hard drive free it came out of the hospital so they had to shred the hard rive not sure for what system but at one time the hospital used this has a server because it has written in marker server then a # and a long number is a lot taller then most towers but on the nic with both connectors I can't find drivers so not sure if it works or not it is a kingston kne2021lc so if you came give me some direction if I can use the network the way it is set up i.e. the modem into the router then all the other computer hooking in through the LAN ports except the lap top hooked up wireless. what speed of computer is your print server mine is kinda slow but don't think it matters since all i use it for is printing and extra storage space. on linux can you use a usb printer and when not using it just shut the printer off and when you need it turn it back on.. Any web sights that are real good about building your own networks also any one else have pictures of there own computer networks like Robert has ----- Original Message ----- From: Robert C Wittig To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, February 18, 2007 1:33 PM Subject: Re: [LINUX_Newbies] Re: hi

I do some building and repairing for a short list of computing clients, and am often told to 'just get rid of' the computer that is being replaced by the computer I built, and am installing. I also pick up a lot of spare parts at garage sales, and on CraigsList... local Chicago people selling good stuff for cheap. The current evolution of the LAN is about number 4, with a lot of improvements being made along the way. The one thing I did buy new and shiny is that WaveMaster case, built by Cooler Master... it was just a beautiful thing, that I had to have.<g> -- -wittig http://www.robertwittig.com/ . http://robertwittig.net/ . http://robertwittig.org/ [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] To unsubscribe from this list, please email [EMAIL PROTECTED] & you will be removed.
