yea I have networking setup up only one thing you said hook the linux box to 
the modem does that mean I have to get rid f the router has I said I have all 
the computers running into the router will that still work . running into the 
router

  Ok, if you have a DSL modem, then setting up another machine with Linux 
  should be pretty easy. Make sure you have a network interface card (NIC) 
  installed in the linux machine and a cable connected from the NIC to a 
  port on the DSL modem, and during the operating system installation, 
  choose the DHCP option, so that Linux will contact your DSL modem for an 
  IP address, and you should be automatically on-line.

  Then, to share printers and files, you can use Samba, which you can 
  probably install during the OS setup, because most Linux distros have it 
  as a choice on the installation CD's: http://us3.samba.org/samba/

  If you have not already set up Windows Networking between your Windows 
  boxes, you should do that first:
