I know the ubonta CD you can run with out actually installing it so the program 
you guys said I need to network with Microsoft would this work save that 
program to the hard drive then run the unbonta cd to use linux tell I get it 
all figured out then go for it but at least get some trial and error before I 
dump Microsoft

  A router will be fine as long as it is working now, the way you have it 
  set up.

  A lot of DSL modems have have 1 plug in the back to receive the DSL 
  line, and 4 plugs in the back to receive ethernet cables to computers. 
  That is what I have, so that is what I was describing, but if you have a 
  router or an ethernet hub plugged into the DSL modem, that should work 
  equally well, with the additional Linux computer.
