Hi, I'm trying to learn how to use Linux and got stuck in the very first step which is trying to install it on my computer. After struggling with it a little, I was able to install some version of Slackware from a cd someone gave to me a while ago, and my major problem was to make it work together with windows. I think I figured out a way to make they both work now, it was a kind of accident, but as long as it works I'm okay with it ^^. My real problem now is that I don't know how to load the graphical interface, this is probably a stupid question, and very very basic, but I remembered that someone had installed this cd on my computer and all I had to do was write something and a software would load, unfortunally I had to change my hd and spent a long time without linux, so I can't remember how I used to do that, and I just have no idea how to do anything in the text mode. So if anyone could help me with this very basic question, I would really appreciate. I also remember I had been told that you should avoid logging as root all the time, I don't know if that really is a problem, but if it is, I would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction as to how create a username or account, I don't really know the name of it in English.
