Let us take those questions in reverse order: 1. Broadband speeds continue to suck because every provider has to make a huge capital investment to build the infrastructure from scratch. That investment adds to the cost he has to recover from the customers of his service. This is a massive wastage - and it is not just in telecom, but in a lot of other areas in India where the PSU behemoths don't share infrastructure and resources with upcoming private players. 2. I am hoping Ubuntu TV (and its cousin Android TV) will encourage small independent manufacturers to innovate and threaten the biggies like Android did to Nokia (I would love to see a 28" TV with a slot to slide a SIM card in and voila - video conference with the bhaiya who is in Abu-Dhabi).
