Used Mempis and had major issues with Multimedia. Though its been awhile
and I am sure Warren has fixed many of those issues.

LinuxMint is a wonderful distro but a bit behind. Same with Klickit
Linux.

Ubuntu based distros are extremely easy to get Multimedia on. Just add
the medibuntu repository.

deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ intrepid free non-free
#deb-src http://packages.medibuntu.org/ intrepid free non-free

I also recommend the following additional repositories:

deb http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/ intrepid main
deb-src http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/ intrepid main

deb http://ubuntu.org.ua/ getdeb/

deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free
deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ testing non-free

It isn't about it being free. Rather, its about the freedom it brings.
