I tested the issue and found the problem occured with Andrew's patch
applied to 0.7.5, that is, 0.7.5 has this issue too.  I have some
guess about the cause.  But have not nailed it down yet.

Andrew, please take a look at the issue.  It might be easier for you
to figure it out.  Thank you.
