Gundam is a very mysterious thing for me. I really don't see why Gundam is

Does he mean the animation quality, the story, or concept? I am surprised
he would bash it yet spend so much time on Gundam: The Origin.

Your quote didn't capture it, he pretty much dismissed the whole anime
industry as low quality. I don't think he said enough to decipher
what exactly is meant. My guess is that he's criticizing everything
about anime.

There are so many possible angles to this. He's not been an active
member of anime for a long time. It's quite possible Yaz and the
industry can't stand each other. On a level, I agree with him, even
the best of anime, (which may or may not be Gundam), could be and
should be so much better. (But I also think his admiration of Disney
is misplaced.) On the other hand, he may simply be incapable of
accepting the commercial reality of entertainment industry. The
truth, I am pretty sure, is somewhere in between.
