interview since I'm illiterate when it comes to Japanese, but this
translation is very clear:
"Gundam is a very mysterious thing for me. I really don't see why
Gundam is still popular after so many years. Sometimes I have to see
it on due to the necessity of my job, but I think it's a poorly made work."
Gundam is mysterious, is popular for reasons unknown, and is a poorly
made work. Hem and haw about it all you want, but his answer is what
it is, and that fact he goes on to talk about anime in general in the
next breath doesn't change that.
