To REALLY clarify, the interviewer named FIRST Gundam specifically and
Yaz responded according to the context and the wording of the
question.
The context was that the reason that this whole interview was even
requested only because of a purely commercial activity: the R2 DVD box
set launch of First Gundam. Yaz had nothing to do with the R2 launch
and has been famously busy with Origin for years. Yet this genius
interviewer opened the questions with "The DVD box set of the "First
Gundam" is very popular." DUH! It's even likely Yaz is not making a
penny from the DVD sales. Only a bonehead interviewer would need to
ask "What are you doing now?" "A manga, have you been living under a
rock?".
In contrast, Yaz was solely responsible for broadening the criticism
to all anime. The interviewer asked "Do you really think so?" [that
Gundam was poorly made] The natural response was "Yes" or "Not really"
and elaborate on why he thinks Gundam was or was not poorly made.
It's by no means any invitation or bait to touch on non-Gundam, but
Yaz consciously broadened the attack from Gundam to "Japanese
animation".
SIGH... what do they teach in English class nowadays??
