This is actually kind of the discussion I wanted to have... How come
the original 0083 line was so short (and bad) and how did it come back
to life and even set at least one record (most expensive gunpla ever)?

I thought I covered this? F91 was expected to be the big hit. That is why
the marketing blitz focused on it instead of 0083. F91 bombed while 0083
succeeded. While Kou and the love triangle sucked the mecha action and
animation quality were great. That is why 0083 got more attention in the
HGUC and MG lines.
If that's all there is, though, why hasn't V Gundam gotten more attention
lately? I thought it was popular enough, unless there's a hefty bias
against Zanscare's bug-eyed mecha. Seems to me there's also a practical
side to this -- scaling down the mecha from the F91 era on doesn't seem to
have fit well with Bandai's current UC scale paradigm (1/144 HG and 1/100
MG). Until recently, I suspect this put the post-CCA mecha too small for a
proper HGUC at 1/144 scale (though we did have a HG V2 Gundam, correct?),
and too small to fit the internal frame details for a 1/100 MG. It looks
like they've solved the issue with the F91 MG; does this mean more MS from
the post-CCA era will show up now?
