Well any story that involve US must involve MSIA. My hypothesis is
that when Wing had its run(s) in the US, the toy fans are fishing for
the next series to support, and the wallets went for 0083 instead of
(or as much as) 0079, much to the surprise of the Japanese execs. I
admit the story of US-support for 0083 toys leading to Japanese fans
getting 0083 MG/HGUC is a weak narrative... Just trying to throw it
out...
In the case of W and G, I am pretty convinced that there wouldn't be
MG W and G kits if not for US fans. At least the timing would not be
as early as they were.
the impression we're an afterthought compared to the main Japanese market,
and so probably don't have enough pull to influence Bandai's decisions on
Well in gunpla, I'd say the US isn't even an afterthought. The
HK/TW/KR/PH region is an afterthought, to be generous. There they
have commercially successful exhibition, competition, and GK
companies. That, plus the gross number in sales, make it worthwhile
to do things like HK-only special/limited editions.
what gets made. I'd expect us to have more of an influence on the MSiA
design process, really.
That's the point. I think... Both HGUC/MG (and now GFF) went to 0083
well after MSIA. And I am wondering if MSIA would have went to 0083
at that time if not for the US market. So, the US market can have a
great influence on the Japanese producers, but not directly. I think
the MSIA route was one such case, and perhaps... Gundam gaming could
become the next example?
