Ken:
I apologize if my initial message was seen as inflammatory.
I think the point that needs to be made here is that dnso.org is now paying the
price for acting too quickly in order to obtain a pre-emptive advantage in the
struggle for recognition by ICANN.
DNSO.org was set up before ICANN was even established, and your disclaimers
notwithstanding, was initiated primarily by the people behind the gTLD-MoU.
Thus, for those of us to whom the gTLD-MoU had no legitimacy, the Barcelona
meeting looked like the same old people shifting the same old battle to a
different level, and acting in the same old way. There was simply no way we were
going to participate in the Barcelona meeting under those circumstances. This
was made clear at the time. Many of us questioned the timing and the motivation
of the Barcelona meeting.
I will pass over your personal comments and note that the DNSO.org meetings
apparently were run in an open and fair manner, some overtures were made, and
there was some possibility that past divisions could be patched over and
progress made. That possibility is now being destroyed by the rigidity and
ham-handed tactics of certain of your spokespersons. I have raised the
substantive issue of a special membership class for the TM interests. That is
all I am interested in. These criticisms have been supported by people within
dnso.org, and by many others. You can respond to these concerns with flexibility
and make the necessary changes, or you can dig in your heels and revert to the
paranoid name-calling and posturing of the gTLD-MoU days.
Best regards,
MM
