Lets make it $0.04 !

This is not a democracy, but an "open dictatorship" so Ill throw my Vote (or my
$0.02) together
with this idea:
 - keep control
 - work on /View or whatever makes more business sense
( or gives the most pleasure... )
 - but if anyone is crazy enough to help you support /Core on the Yoyodyne5000 let him
!

I couldnt write programs for the Yoyodyne5000 and do not want to learn how to do that
with the
available languages but would immediately start doing that if I could use Rebol on it
(or on my Palm for that matter...)

I guess the decision to "work on /View" is either already made or will always be made
by "sound
business decision" or motivated by whatever gives more sheer pleasure to someone with
the power to
decide...
(and I think that is the way it should be!)

But some form of open source (even if limitted to segments where it does not seem
appropriate to
apply your energy now) would certainly be wellcomed by many and you would certainly
get a lot of
support !

NOTE: This certainly leaves out any idea of an open project for DB access as suggested
by Elan.
As someone (jb ?) pointed out this should already be complete and in a standard way.
When do we get
to see it?

I would like to have /View but I do not think it helps much if many of us say "I
prefer A then B
then C" whatever each from A, B or C mean.
It makes a lot of noise and is very difficult to evaluate (don't get me wrong: I am
glad for the
freedom of expression but I do not believe anyone can or will take the time to
evaluate all the
different sequences and arguments for each sequence)

But we can all make suggestions and I do wish a couple of things happened at Rebol.Inc:

1. Keep a few deadlines!
No one keeps 'em all but every now and then it looks damn good to keep one!
Postponing everything works only for some very large software companies (only for
one?) because
by announcing anything they just prevent the competition from selling anything and it
does not
matter when they deliver. Rebol.Inc does not yet have so much clout and could use some
credibility...
(As for the sequence just do one now and the other afterwards as long as it is not
too long after
the promised date)

2. Eventually consider the open source model for expansion into some of the missing
platforms for
the promised 50.
And keep focus on /Core for the "main platforms" (since delivery for 35 or 50
platforms at the
same time is impossible, the main ones are the first 10 or 20, whichever they may be)
and essential
technologies like DB access (delivering soon ???)
