So, bad news/good news for the enduser. I can’t delete any of these .tmp files. Access denied, and I’m logged into the machine with my domain admin account. I also tried booting into safe mode as the local admin account, and that couldn’t take ownership of the files either. Time to reimage…

It had to do with the number of temp files. It's like the installer keeps track of the number of temp files, and the counter rolls over at 65K, and so it won't create a new one ... So, I looked at my user’s PC. He also has 65,534 MSI*.tmp files with a size of 0KB each. There is also one that has a size of 99 MB, which I don’t think I’d want to delete, but is it safe to delete the others, with no size? I’m thinking probably yes, since tmp files are supposed to be “temporary”… but before I do something I might regret, I thought I’d run it by you guys.
